OVERVIEW

Gather on historic Old Highway 27 in Decatur, Indiana, for a filmmaking journey during the Decatur Sculpture Tour! There is no charge for participation in this filmmaking event.

 

Five ways to participate:

• 27 weeks to film up to a 9-minute film
• 27 days to film up to a 9-minute film
• 27 hours to film up to a 7-minute film
• 27 hours to film up to a 27-second film
• Exhibition film or segments up to 9 minutes

27-Week Filming

• Sign your team up at www.theold27icecreamshop.com. Click on Film Festival to download your registration packet. Register by May 1st.

 

• Filmmaking runs from November 29, 2014, through 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 6, 2015.

 

• “Roadside Attraction” requirements available online after November 29.

 

• Film must be limited to nine minutes or less in length including title and credits.

 

• Awards: Overall Best Picture, Best Acting, Best Cinematography, Best Sound/Music, Best Use of Roadside Attractions and People’s Choice.

 

27-Day Filming

• Sign your team up at www.theold27icecreamshop.com. Click on Film Festival to download your registration packet. Register by May 23rd.

 

• Filmmaking runs from Sunday, May 10, through 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 6.

 

• “Roadside Attraction” requirements available online on Sunday, May 10.

 

• Film must be limited to nine minutes or less in length including title and credits.

 

• Awards: Overall Best Picture, Best Acting, Best Use of Roadside Attractions, People’s Choice.

 

27-Hour Filming

• Sign your team up at www.theold27icecreamshop.com. Click on Film Festival to download your registration packet. Register by June 5.

 

• Filmmaking runs from 3 p.m. on Friday, June 5 through 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 6.

 

• “Roadside Attractions” available online or at The Old 27 after 2:00 p.m. on Friday, June 5.

 

• Films must be limited to seven minutes or less in length including title and credits.

 

• Awards: Overall Best Picture, Best Use of Roadside Attractions, People’s Choice.

 

27-Hour Filming/27-Second Film

• Same signup and deadline as 27-Hour Filming.

 

• Films must be limited to 27 seconds or less in length excluding title and credits.

 

• People’s Choice Award

 

Exhibition Film or Segment

• Same signup and deadline as 27-Day Filming.

 

• Film or segment must be limited to 9 minutes or less in length including title and credits.

 

• Film may be created and completed at any time.

 

• Must follow all applicable Road Rules.

 

• People’s Choice Award

 

Trip Destination:

• Film must be turned in on DVD, flash drive or online video sharing service by stated deadline to qualify. If not on DVD, the format must be readable on a Mac.

 

• Films will be reviewed for public viewing by film festival screening officials between submission deadline and public viewing.

 

• Public viewing will be held at The Old 27 Ice Cream Shop, 168 S. 2nd St., Decatur, IN, beginning at 9:27 p.m. on Saturday, June 6.

 

• Awards will be panel judged. People’s Choice selection will take place immediately following the public viewing.

 

Road Rules:

• All filming, including special effects and/or animation, must be original and must be produced during the designated filming period. Props, costumes and scripts can be assembled ahead of time.

 

• Any team size is acceptable.

 

• Films must include a required combination of 6 of 21 Roadside Attractions (3 for 27-second film), which consists of a list of phrases, places and props to include in the film, revealed online on designated dates. No Roadside Attractions required for Exhibition films.

 

• Use any resources, actors, camera or film editing tools at your disposal.

 

• Music must be non-copyrighted. Acceptable choices include royalty-free, Creative Commons or original. Exceptions: copyrighted music is only acceptable with the written permission from the copyright holder. Original music may be pre-recorded.

 

• Registration will include mandatory releases on music, story, footage and finished project to The Old 27 Film Festival and The Old 27 Ice Cream Shop to display the work indefinitely; however, the film team retains original rights to the work. Registration forms will be available at www.theold27icecreamshop.com.

 

• Release forms must be signed for participants (if under 18, by a parent), non-public film locations and reasonably identifiable people in the film.

 

• Film editing and audio resource tips will be available through our Film Festival staff.

 

• This is a family friendly event. Films must be in line with generally accepted PG ratings. Film festival screening officials reserve the right to require additional edits after submission deadline to take part in public viewing and judging or to reject the film entirely.
